Product Label Design: Earn $30-150 Per Order on Fiverr With AI

MoneyForge Team 2026-07-31 12 min read

Search "product label design" on Fiverr and you find over 29,000 active listings. A basic single-label design sells for $25-60. A label plus packaging box combo sells for $80-150. Top sellers have 1,000+ reviews and backlogs of orders.

The demand comes from a massive wave of small brands: homemade candle makers selling on Etsy, fitness coaches launching supplement lines, hot sauce creators testing at farmers markets. Every single one needs packaging before they can sell. And they cannot afford $500-1,000 for a local designer.

This guide covers how label design orders work, why AI changed the barrier, the print specifications you must know, and a complete workflow from order to delivery.

Why Small Brands Pay $30-150 for Labels

The market logic is simple. A homemade candle maker in Ohio makes great candles but cannot design labels. Local designers charge $300-1,000 per project. Learning Adobe Illustrator takes weeks. So they go to Fiverr, find someone offering label design at $40, and order.

For the buyer, $40 is pocket change compared to local design rates. For you, $40 per label with a production cost of near zero (AI generates the artwork, Canva handles layout) is excellent margin.

The key insight: clients are not paying for artistic brilliance. They are paying for a professional-looking label that passes muster on a store shelf. "Good enough to sell" is the standard, not "award-winning design." And AI has crossed the threshold where it can produce "good enough to sell" artwork in minutes.

How Orders Are Priced

Fiverr packaging sellers break a single order into multiple priced components:

ServicePrice RangeDescription
Single product label$25-60One bottle or bag label, 2-3 revisions
Label series (multi-flavor)$50-100Same layout, different colors/text, 3-5 variants
Label + box combo$80-150Includes dieline layout, highest regular ticket
Full brand packaging set$150-300Multiple products, consistent identity
Rush delivery (24h)+50-100%Premium for fast turnaround

The standard tier (middle of three pricing packages) sells most frequently. Set your target price as the standard tier.

The Real Barrier: Print Specifications

AI generates beautiful images. But images are not print-ready files. The gap between "AI artwork" and "file the client sends to a printing factory" is where most beginners fail.

Four terms define this gap:

Dieline (cut template). A dieline is the flat map showing where a label or box gets cut, folded, and glued. It defines the exact dimensions and shape. Without a correct dieline, the printer does not know where to cut. You do not create dielines from scratch. Clients provide them (from their printer), or you use standard templates available in Canva and Adobe.

Bleed. Bleed is extra margin (typically 3mm or 0.125 inches) added beyond the cut line. It ensures no white edges appear after cutting. If your design ends exactly at the cut line, slight printing misalignment creates ugly white strips. Always extend background colors and images into the bleed area.

CMYK color mode. Screens use RGB (red, green, blue). Printers use CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). Designs created in RGB may look different when printed. Export final files in CMYK for accurate print colors.

300 DPI resolution. Print requires 300 dots per inch for sharp output. Screen-resolution images (72 DPI) look pixelated when printed. Always design and export at 300 DPI.

The Complete Workflow

Step 1: Generate Artwork With AI

Use Midjourney, DALL-E, or similar tools to create the visual elements: illustrations, patterns, backgrounds, decorative graphics. Generate multiple variations and select the best.

Critical rule: never let AI generate text. AI-generated text contains spelling errors and distorted letters. AI handles visuals. You handle text separately in Canva.

Prompt example:

Minimalist botanical illustration for a cosmetic product label.
Soft watercolor style, sage green and cream colors.
No text, no letters. Clean background. High resolution.

Step 2: Add Text in Canva

Open Canva and create a design at the exact label dimensions (provided by the client). Import your AI-generated artwork as the background or decorative element. Then manually add all text elements:

  • Product name (largest, most prominent)
  • Brand name/logo
  • Net weight or volume
  • Ingredients list (if applicable)
  • Usage instructions
  • Barcode placeholder
  • Regulatory text (FDA disclaimers, etc. if applicable)

Use clean, readable fonts. One decorative font for the product name, one simple font for body text. Maintain consistent spacing and alignment.

Step 3: Export Print-Ready Files

Export the final design as:

  • PDF in CMYK color mode at 300 DPI (primary deliverable)
  • PNG at 300 DPI (for client preview)
  • Source file (Canva template link or editable file)

Include a brief note to the client: "Your label is formatted at [dimensions] with 3mm bleed, in CMYK at 300 DPI. Ready for professional printing. If your printer requires a specific dieline template, please send it and I will adjust."

Setting Up Your Fiverr Gig

Title: "I will design product labels, packaging, and bottle stickers"

Pricing tiers:

TierPriceIncludes
Basic$30Single label design, 2 revisions, PNG + PDF
Standard$70Label + mockup, 3 revisions, print-ready files
Premium$150Label + box design, full brand set, source files, unlimited revisions

Portfolio: Create 5-8 sample labels before listing. Design labels for fictional products: a candle, a supplement bottle, a hot sauce, a cosmetic cream, a coffee bag. Show them as realistic mockups (bottles with labels applied).

Communication Templates

Clients send requirements in English. You may not be fluent. Use AI for all communication:

Understanding requirements: Paste the client's message into ChatGPT: "Summarize what this client wants: product type, label dimensions, style preferences, required text, deadline."

Sending deliverables: "Here is your completed label design. I have included print-ready PDF (CMYK, 300 DPI, with 3mm bleed) and a PNG preview. The design features [brief description]. If you need any text changes or color adjustments, I offer 2 free revisions."

Handling revision requests: "Happy to make that adjustment. To confirm: you want [specific change]. I will have the updated version ready within [timeframe]."

Where to Find Clients Beyond Fiverr

PlatformBest ForCommission
FiverrBeginner, standardized label packages20%
UpworkLarger projects, ongoing brand work10%
99designsDesign contests, portfolio buildingVaries
Direct outreachEtsy/Amazon sellers needing labels0%

Direct outreach is the highest-margin channel. Search Etsy for products with poor packaging. Message the seller: "I noticed your [product] has potential but the label design could be more professional. I create custom labels for $40. Here is a quick concept I made for your product." Attach a sample. This converts surprisingly well.

Realistic Earnings

PeriodOrders/MonthAverage OrderMonthly Income
Month 1-22-5$30-50$60-250
Month 3-45-10$40-70$200-700
Month 5-68-15$50-100$400-1,200
Month 6-1210-20$70-150$700-2,500

Income scales with reviews and repeat clients. Brands that launch one product typically launch more. A satisfied client who ordered a candle label returns for a soap label, then a gift box design.

Common Mistakes

Delivering AI images without text layout. A beautiful AI illustration without properly placed product name, ingredients, and weight information is useless to the client. The text layout is the actual deliverable.

Ignoring print specifications. Delivering a 72 DPI RGB file to a client who sends it to a professional printer results in a blurry, discolored mess. Always export at 300 DPI in CMYK.

Underpricing permanently. After 10 reviews, raise prices. A $30 label designer and a $70 label designer do similar work, but the $70 designer earns 2.3x more per hour.

Accepting orders without clear requirements. If the client does not provide label dimensions, required text, or style preferences, ask before starting. Guessing leads to rework.

Product label design sits at a sweet spot: constant demand from the growing small-brand market, AI handling the creative work, and Canva handling the technical layout. The barrier is understanding print specifications, which takes one afternoon to learn. For freelancers willing to master the workflow, this is a sustainable service business with $30-150 per order and strong repeat-client potential.
